The Kremlin – A View from the Outside
The Pskov fortress is simply huge. First, you will consider it from the outside - from the side of the Olginskaya chapel on the opposite bank of the Velikaya River from the Kremlin. This is one of the best photo locations and a suitable place to tell about what made the Pskov tradition of church architecture truly unique. In addition, you will see the nearby Anastasia Chapel of Shchusev and learn which famous artist painted it with frescoes in 1911.
History of Dovmontov city
We will begin our tour of the Kremlin with an extensive "annex" made by the outstanding Pskov prince Dovmont at the end of the XIII century and named in his honor "Dovmontov City". I will show a map of the Pskov fortress and "percy" - the main defensive wall of Krom. I will tell you how Dovmontov city looked from the XIII century to the present day, and reveal the secret of the most unusual tower of the ensemble.
Shrines of the Trinity Cathedral
Through the defensive structure "zahab" we will pass to the territory of the Pskov Kremlin. Behind the edge of its walls, the "bins of the Motherland" have been kept for centuries. You will hear about the Annunciation Cathedral blown up by the Bolsheviks, the vechevaya square and one very interesting bell tower. And you will also go to the Trinity Cathedral, where you will see a huge iconostasis, antique icons, relics of Pskov saints and other Orthodox relics.
The best views of Pskov and the Kremlin
Climbing the fortress wall, you will enjoy the view of the confluence of the Velikaya and Pskov rivers. And from the observation deck of the Vlasievskaya Tower - a panorama of the whole city. After that, we will leave Krom and go to other successful locations outside it, from where you will have new views of the fortress.
