Kimry wooden art nouveau

From Moscow to the ancient city in the Tver region - only 130 km, but already here you will find yourself in the world of real provincial Russia. This world is full of pleasant surprises, and art nouveau in Kimry is one of them. On the walk, I will introduce you to examples of the style, which after the fashion for it continued to play in the city with bright colors of wooden carvings and pre-revolutionary merchant motifs.

What awaits you

Architectural heritage of the historic center
Walking along Fadeev Street, the Volga Embankment and Teatralnaya Square, you will hear a short story about the history of the village of Kimry and the birth of shoemaking in one of the "shoemakers" of Russia. Understand the structure of the streets and the plan of the city, consider the old photos. And on the streets of Uritsky, Kirov and Vagzhanov explore the historical buildings with mansions and houses in the style of eclecticism, art nouveau, neoclassicism, neo-Greek. And be sure to stay at the bright house-teremka Luzhin.

Zarechye: monuments of the Ascension side
After making a small circular route in the center, we will go to the bridge over the Kimrka River, a tributary of the Volga. You will see a symbolic meeting of the old pre-revolutionary art nouveau (the house of the merchant Teplov) and the new Soviet (the house of the doctor Zhardetsky). On the other bank, you will walk along Ordzhonikidze Street, where I will show the oldest building in the city, the Ascension Church, and introduce wooden buildings in the Art Nouveau style of the 20s. And on a parallel street, Moskovskaya, especially rich in ancient monuments, you will see the houses of the NEP era, many of which are also with elements of Art Nouveau.

Kimry is my hometown. I have lived here almost all my life, I know all the local streets and many interesting stories related to the city. I became interested in architecture and art while studying at the Department of Art History at PSTGU. For several years he worked in one of the Moscow museums. In September 2021, I returned to my hometown and now work at the Children's Art School. At the same time, I conduct excursions to the architecture and history of Kimr. On walks I try to immerse guests in the wonderful world of Kimr and fall in love with it!
