Getting to know the city on foot and by car
We will drive along the central streets and see the key attractions of the city. On the way, the guide will acquaint you with important events from its history, tell you about the merchants who ruled in the city. Let's talk about the mixture of cultures and religions in our lands, and also remember the famous personalities - Speransky, Alexander III, Kolchak, etc.
During the walk and stops you will see the following locations:
- The place, the Irkutsk ostrog was located - the story will go about the foundation of the city and we will inspect the Monument to the Pioneers;
- Earl Speransky Square – you will hear about the personality of our governor and a prominent politician who had influence even in California and Alaska;
- Moscow Gate - you will find out why they are turned by an arch to the river;
- The estate of the Volkonskys and the monument to the wives of the Decembrists is a separate chapter in the annals of the city.
Let's get acquainted with the temple architecture of Irkutsk: you will see the snow-white Spasskaya Church, the colorful Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and the Cathedral of the Epiphany, as well as the Znamensky Convent - one of the oldest in Siberia.
On a walk along the historic Karl Marx Street, you will admire the old mansions and apartment buildings, look closely at the carved lace of wooden houses. And the tour will end at the monument to Alexander III: after that you can walk along the embankment, visit the Local Lore Museum nearby or go to lunch.
