Welcome to skopje!

Some call Skopje the world capital of kitsch with a shocking number of sculptures, others are captivated by its bridges. One way or another, contradictory views on its appearance do not cancel the great history behind the shoulders of the Balkan old man, who saw wars, cataclysms, epidemics and changes of empires. We will talk about how the difficult fate of Skopje has shaped its culture on a walk through the center.

What awaits you

An unusual city-museum in the open air
The focus will be on the cultural mosaic of Skopje and the harmony that has been established between the Old Town, the Ottoman period, and the New Town, which has not lost Christian traditions. Also along the way, I will tell you how other periods of history affected the life of the state that was part of Ancient Macedonia, the Roman and Byzantine Empires.

You will visit the largest bazaar in the Balkans – Old Charshia. Walk through the Golden and other artisan streets. You will see where the construction of Skopje began. Look into the covered market "bezisten", visit the caravanserai, where there is a women's madrasah, as well as a hookah and beer bar. Hear the history of the kale fortress. And in the New Town I will introduce you to the project Skopje 2014 - an open-air museum, show the bridges of Civilization and Art and the medieval Stone Bridge - the visiting card of the Macedonian Capital.

In addition, on a walk you will find out where the house in which Mother Teresa was born actually was located.

Your guide: Ирина
My name is Irina, a licensed guide to Macedonia. I specialize in various topics, but during 9 years of working with tourists, I realized that sightseeing and gastronomic excursions are most interesting to guests of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. My approach to the excursion is individual for each tourist: someone likes excursions by car, someone on a sports plane, and someone likes to get acquainted with interesting objects on foot. The choice is yours, because conducting excursions for me is not only a profession, but also my hobby, my life!!!
