Immersive performance "somnum. mental cinema"

The promenade performance in the space of St. Petersburg will combine the heritage of different eras with the modern perception of the city. During the journey through the ancient streets, each viewer will have his own image of St. Petersburg, and the conductors in this journey will be the artists of the BDT and other theaters.

The purpose of the unusual project is to help each viewer hear better, feel deeper and more fully perceive St. Petersburg. Last summer, the performance was attended by more than 3,000 people. This season, a new version was created with the participation of new characters, so it will be interesting to take part in the promenade even for those who have already been to it.

To feel the unique details of the city, to feel its smells, to hear the sounds characteristic only for it and to record all this on the tape of his memory - this is what mental cinema is. This is a mosaic of impressions of each viewer, his own perception of St. Petersburg. For such a mosaic to really take shape, director Stepan Pekteev, working together with historian Lev Lurie, sought to establish a "new optics" for the audience - it's like looking at the city through a telescope. noticing something I hadn't seen before.

The project combined the formats of the performance and excursions. The plot is based on the stories of streets and buildings that played a significant role in the life of the capital during the heyday of the Russian Empire. On their way, the audience will meet historical characters who once walked along the same pavements, under the same lanterns, looked at the same silhouettes of houses and temples. In an hour and a half, participants will visit 21 locations and meet 7 heroes. The chain of associations will stretch through time to the present day, connecting the past with the present.
